Rumors and Facts About the iPhone 5

The release for the iPhone 5 is just around the corner. In fact, Apple employees are not being allowed any time off in October, as rumor has it. While you prepare for your long wait in line to get your hands on the latest iPhone, here is what you may want to know about its possible design. Keep in mind that these may all end up being rumors, as Apple is known to keep a tight lid on its new products until they are actually released.

Two Possible Models

First, many rumors indicate there will actually be two models – the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4GS or iPhone 4S, depending on where you look. While they will be similar, they are going to have some subtle differences.

The iPhone 4S is simply a slight upgrade to the iPhone 4. The thickness and glass are going to be the same, as will the display size. It will have 512 RAM and will not have HD capability. There will be few new features on this phone.

It is the iPhone 5 that is going to be packed with new features, or the rumors say. First, with this model, iPhone is going HD. You will be able to watch videos and even video chat in crystal clear HD.

The iPhone 5 – What to Expect

IPhone 5 users will also be able to video chat with one another on 3G and 4G. Other iPhones have offered this option before, but it was limited to those who had WiFi access. Now, they will be able to video chat anywhere they can receive a call. Along with the launch of the iPhone 5, Apple is launching a chat service between Apple devices that is similar to the Blackberry messenger service. This is integrated into the SMS/MMS application on the older iPhones, so you will be readily able to connect and chat with any iPhone.

The iPhone 5 is also going to speed up a bit. The dual core A5 chip processor is combined with a more powerful graphic chip to allow the phone to deliver high video resolutions and capture great quality still images, all without slowing things down. This is one similarity between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S, which is also rumored to have the A5 processor.

The iPhone is rumored to work quite well on 4G speeds. T-mobile, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon all have or will soon have 4G networks, making them possible carriers for the new phones. Having access to a 4G network will be important, as AT&T’s network is 7.2 times faster than its 3G network. When working with HD video and imaging, the faster speeds are important. An official network list has not been released.

The latest iPhone is also going to get a face recognition security program. Not only does this make the phone a little more secure, but it is also technologically cool and something the “geeky” Apple lovers are going to enjoy quite a bit.

The display is going to be better, measuring at four inches with a scratch proof and shatter proof screen, say the rumors. Memory options will be 32G and 64G. The extended battery life will give users 14 hours of talk time on 3G and seven hours of talk time on 4G. Standby time is a whopping 600 hours.

The camera is going to get upgraded as well. This phone will be equipped with an 8-megapixel camera. That, combined with the quality of the images, will make it an excellent point and shoot camera option. Gone are the days of grainy cell phone images with this new model.

Apple and iPhone enthusiasts are thrilled that the new model is going to have far fewer restrictions than its predecessors, at least according to rumor. For instance, it may be able to accept Adobe Flash Player. The other missing restrictions are still all rumor, but it will be much more user friendly than past models. It will also have iOS 5. rumor has it that there will be plenty of other software upgrades, but as of yet these have been kept tightly under wraps. Until the phone is unveiled, it is unknown if these will wow or not.

The iPhone 5 is getting a few cosmetic upgrades as well. The phone is going to be thinner than its predecessors, even with the better camera and new capabilities. Rumor indicates it will be just 9.3 mm thick. The body design is going to look a bit sleeker too.

For those that use their iPhone for electronic communication, the custom e-mail alerts feature will come in quite handy. You will be able to assign different tones to each email address in your address book. That way you can know when an email comes in from an important client versus your grandma in Arizona.

Release Date Rumors

So, how many of these rumors are true? We will find out when it releases! But that leads to another set of rumors – rumors about the actual release date! These have been flying all over the Internet since we first got wind of the fact that the iPhone 5 was coming!

If you must get your hands on an iPhone, your wait is almost over. The rumored preorder date is September 30, which is literally just days away. The earliest supposed release date is October 7. These might change, but the fact remains that the date will be sometime in early October, and the presale date any day now. As these dates creep closer, estimates are reaching further and further out. A more recent estimate put the launch date at October 21, with the unveiling on October 4. So at this point we do not know when the phone will be released, we just know it will be released sometime soon!

There will be a decent number of these babies on the shelves when they are released, according to rumors. An Internet leak stated that the Taiwan based notebook maker that will be making the phones received an order for 15 million iPhone 5 units from Apple. This news has not been confirmed, but it is a nice number of units for the fall launch.
